| Even with those restrictions I can think of two situations where this would be good.
Solo: you're mining... and poof, CL 50 mane is RIGHT THERE. Target it and use the skill... and you can finish mining. This might work too for Ardus and such, three explorers locking down those pineapples and mining the roids around them, then warping away out of danger. Group: You've got a big set of nasties and can only take on one at a time... so a JE for each mob locks them down until the rest of the group is ready to pound on it.[signature]

In Forum: General Discussion In Topic: It's Official |
| OK guys this thread is being locked because it is very misleading.
People are seeing the title of the original post, and believing the original poster. They are then doing some drastic things thinking that the ending has been already officially announced. Proof that the first post is false follows. Number 1: The online version of the document he refers to does not include the line he is refrencing. Also the online document would need to be identical to the "shareholders version" that he is pretending to have, due to US law about making financial information public. Also there have been multiple shareholders that pointed out that there was no document sent out recently, and that a quick search at info.ea.com shows that the document he is talking about is over 9months old. Number 2: The line he is "quoting" says that EA will be shutting down the game in Q2 2004. EA is currently in Q4 2004. Proof of this can be found here where the quarter 3, 2004 wrap-up confrence call is archived. The original poster obviously doesn't understand the diffrence between a fiscal year and a real year. Which caused him to make this glaring error in his false statement. Now by no means am I saying that the game is not being canceled. I would have no way of knowing that. All I know is that the post that this entire thread is based on is false. And therefore this thread is being locked. *edit* I would refer you to This Thread If you want to keep discussing the closure rumors. Because that is the thread that started the entire rumor mill going. And that's where it should stay. [signature] [ This message was edited by: Munky on 2004-03-02 20:39 ]

| No its hamsters alright, Stainlyess confirmed it in this post:
I just want to chime in here and say that fixing lag is not as easy as players seem to think. Everyone imagines that it is easy to get hamsters to breed and/or play on a wheel, but in the case of Pegasus, these have been significant challenges. More updates will be forthcoming regarding rumors of the rusty wheel inhibiting the ratio of hamster-power-output to CPU cycles that is enjoyed by other servers. I am working on gathering metrics on the other hamsters and hope to have a multi-colored spreadsheet to compare our existing hamster pool prepared soon. -Stainlyss (Please, for everyone's sake, do not try to take this post seriously... ) http://www.ebportal.com/forum/topic/3/12902

It's completely obvious by all of the 'doom and gloom' posts lately that some (not all) people are indeed taking things a bit too seriously. I would consider threatening legal action taking things a bit too stupidly, not too seriously. When every single little thing that happens, or every single little rumor that gets churned turns into a doom and gloom post, then maybe, just maybe, things are getting taken a bit too seriously. I could be wrong though, after all I apparently need to start evaluating my attitude towards the posts I write so that I can more correctly interpret the posts of others.[signature] [ This message was edited by: Nythalia on 2004-03-13 00:00 ]

| Lol. Contrary to what many would think Anasazi, I'm not completely obsessed with Tada-O nor limited to my formulaic T-Bay stuff. But when I start a theme, I run with it.
Personally, I'd like to do some stuff with the Cenovar Gladiators that isn't exactly humor related stuff. Got some ideas for mid-range weapons and devices for those peeps between levels 50-100 that would be a nice change from the hum drum of standard terminal leveling, mining, and other related stuff. That being said, what would be wrong with opening up Uranus sector with a Tada-O weapons testing facility for the construction and testing of experimental weapons for use against the invading Ten-Gu/Ti forces at the Cooper gate? I think that would kick arse. Of course, no resources to accomplish such a thing, but a goober can dream can't he... Talisker, I'll miss ya man. I enjoyed your stuff and enjoyed chatting with ya last May at the Fan Gathering. Glad my brownnosing graphics found themselves a proper home with you and I hope you enjoy them. -Merlvin[signature]

ok Tarpiea I am tired of saying that, so this is the last time I am sying it. the lands they want to return to is lands they abandond in 1948 after THEY started the war against us. They are refugees. Refugees does not mean they abandoned it. They fled for their lives. They were forced out at gunpoint. And clearly, they haven't "abandoned" it, or they wouldn't be trying so hard to get back. the UN and Israel agreed on the terms of divinding the country so both arabs and jews can live on happily. a day after the brits left teh Arabs invaded from 5 different fronts. the Israelis fought for their homes and their lives, many were killed. but we won, and they ran away. The UN and Israel agreed ... so the arabs and jews could live on happily... Are you on crack? Maybe if the white people who were running the show (Israel and the UN) had bothered to invite a brown person or two to the conference, they could have actually figured this out. But those Arabs, they smell funny, huh, Xiem? I'm pretty sure this is the same crap the South Africans used to justify their apartheid. Tapriea you really have you facts all massed up, and I am really tired of this fighting, but please, stop. I bag you, you have no idea what it is like to live there, and you have no idea about many of the facts. you just look at what you like, you pick and choose what you want to see. please, you are being ignorant just as other being ignorant from the other side. that does not become you.
No, I'm not ignorant. I didn't have to live in South Africa to see that apartheid was wrong. I don't need to live in Israel to see that apartheid is wrong for Israel. And you know what, I no longer care. Israel has crossed their lines. Now Israel will have to live with the consequences of their actions. As long as Israel is occupying Palestinian lands, it will not be safe. But Israel should go ahead... Do what they will... Violence begets violence. [signature]

PS. these lands, that were theirs... in 1948 THEY started a war, 5 different countries... they LOST. they need to deal with it. none of the lands they claim back were taken after 1948. and no one in the world think they should get them. No more than I'd want to live with the people who stole my house. My family immigrated amidst great persecution from Ireland in the late 1800s. My grandparent's family home was taken away by an Englishman who had "bought" the land. Funny how they didn't remember selling it. He told them to evict, and they had no choice. Sound familiar? Then the British told them they couldn't go to school anymore; it was illegal to teach a Catholic how to read or write. Then they told them they couldn't speak their language anymore. Then they told them they had to pay rent to their new "landlords" (again, funny how they never remembered selling their land). So they fought back. And today, most of Ireland is a separate country. Ireland would not exist as a nation if not for terrorism. And the British, in their bizarre and insane way of dealing with the problem (massacring innocent civilians at football games, for one) only helped the IRA recruit troops. Just as Ireland is no longer ruled by the British, so too will Palestine one day no longer be ruled by the Zionists. Once upon a time, Xiem, Jews and Muslims and Christians lived peacefully with one another in those lands. But then, some Jews from Europe (white people) decided they didn't like that arrangment anymore. So they went and pointed guns in the faces of Christian and Muslim families and told them to get out of their homes. GOD GAVE US THIS LAND! KING DAVID! RAH! RAH! And then they scratch their heads and wonder why they have terrorism. Or why those uppity brown people would declare war on them in the first place. Hopeless. For me, I say let Israel keep doing its thing. Soon enough, they'll self destruct, just like every other nation that has tried to occupy and repress a minority.[signature] [ This message was edited by: Tarpeia on 2004-03-15 19:09 ]

| Xiem: clearly you're angry. But whatever, it isn't my problem. So far Israel's policies with regard to the Palestinians have really brought them peace and security, right? Let's just pat Ariel on his enormous back and tell him to keep up the good work. Cause so far, that's made people safer, right?
So just put the blinders on, and keep going. Eventually you'll beat the terrorists! Just keep doing more of what you're doing! Never change course! So far it is making Israel safer every day. You only need 1 guy to be a terrorist, Xiem. If you think you can wipe out every single one of those guys, you're deluded, or crazy. You can't do it. The only way to stop terrorism is to stop giving them a REASON TO BE TERRORISTS. This isn't difficult. Edit: understandlbly we don't want to live with them in the same country
Please tell me you didn't just say this. And you wonder why they hate you? "right of return" means, by definition, to return to someplace you once were at, but now no longer are. How can you claim to not be living on Palestinian lands, when by your use of the phrase, you admit that it was theirs originally? Besides, that comment reeks of the worst kind of racism. The same kind that Bebe loves to use when he suggests shipping the Palestinians to Jordan on freight trains. That's been done before, you know... And the results were rather disasterous. For all involved. [signature] [ This message was edited by: Tarpeia on 2004-03-15 18:39 ]

| Oh, right... India got WMDs so they could use them? Give me a break, Xiem. The fact is, bad policies lead you to a place where you cannot escape from terrorism. And I never said the USA was perfect, in fact, we are far worse than Israel.
The truth, in Israel today, is that neither side really wants peace. Ariel Sharon knows he's only in power because the Israeli people are afraid of terrorism and want someone "strong" to lead them. Arafat is only in power because the Palestinians want someone to stick up for them when the Israeli tanks come and kill their children. Both sides want violence, because violence is what is keeping both sides in power. Without violence, neither Sharon nor Arafat would be in power. That's the truth. George Bush is the same way. George Bush can't very well end terrorism, now can he? His commercials would suddenly be irrelevant. Why would anyone vote for Bush if there wasn't terrorism anymore? I've lived through my fair share of terrorism, Xiem. Thanks. I don't need to go to Israel to know what it is like to live in fear. I need only to go to work in the morning. But my personal experience is neither here nor there. As long as the U.S. supports Israel, which does nothing but make training videos for al Quaeda and Hezbollah every day (surely you can see that!), and as long as the U.S. continues to interfere in the affairs of Arab nations, we will have terrorism. Terrorism, by its nature, cannot be defeated. The U.K. has been trying since 1916, and they haven't succeeded yet. Why would the U.S. or Israel be any different? Terrorism doesn't stop by shooting the terrorists. Shooting terrorists only makes more terrorists. The only "idiots" here are people who can't understand this simple logic. [signature]

| What absolute rubbish.
The simple-mindedness of warmongering conservatives never ceases to amaze me. There are other ways to resolve problems without gunning people down. To be very clear, however, Spain's ruling party was lying to their people (sound familiar) blaming the attacks on the ETA when the evidence was mounting that al Quaeda was behind the attacks. I think a big part of their course change was that they were sick of being lied to by their government. Secondly, and this requires some advanced thinking skills, so try hard to keep up with me, the solution to terrorism isn't aways to shoot back. If you think Osama bin Laden et al. are just terrorists cause they like to blow things up, you are a very simple minded person, and I'm sorry for you. The truth is, they have an agenda. And part of that agenda includes getting more foot soldiers. And you get more foot soldiers by provoking the bigger nations of the world into a fight. It is very hard to recruit soldiers when there's nothing to recruit them for. How do you say to these children in the madrassahs, "Come, join the fight against evil, though we're not fighting it yet." ??? No, instead, you do something (like 9/11 or 11-M) and you rile people up. You goad your enemy to come and fight you. That's exactly what the Hezbollah is doing every day in Israel, and the Israeli government is falling for their ruse, hook, line, and sinker. The U.S. government got hoodwinked by al Quaeda after 9/11. We took the bait. What the people of Spain said is that they are tired of being other people's bait. They're tired of being pawns in someone else's chess game. So they grew up, used their brains, and this time, didn't take the bait. Al Quaeda bombed them BECAUSE they wanted the ruling party re-elected. Al Quaeda serves no purpose in the world if it isn't at war with someone. Osama bin Laden doesn't want the U.S. to pull out of the Middle East anymore than Hezbollah wants Israel to pull back to their 1967 borders. Both of these groups KNOW that if that were to happen, they would cease to exist. One of the most fundamental lessons to learn about politics is that groups are not rational actors. I'd urge you to read Graham Allison's excellent treatise, "Essence of Decision" which explains how politics works. All politics are local, as the saying goes, and they are all constituent based. They exist to perpetuate those in power. Without the "Great Satan" in their holy land, Osama bin Laden would have no reason to BE. The solution to stop terrorism is not to go and bomb the living shit out of brown people in the Middle East, it is to cut off the supply of troops to the terrorist groups. And you only do that by cleaning up your foreign policy, and stop being a hypocritical ass. You can't yell and scream about WMDs when your best friend (Israel) is developing nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons right under our nose. You can't impose sanctions on brown people (India and Pakistan) because they dare to have nukes, while you're developing a whole new generation of nuclear weapons, and flouting international treaties that tell you not to do that. For the Spanish people to acknowledge that they have no real business in Iraq, muddling around with other people's fundamental existence, I say is a brave act of courage. Bravo, Spain![signature]
