Game Info: Starbase Services

Buying and Selling Items

To buy or sell items you must first find a vendor. They are usually located in starbases but you might find them elsewhere, including planetary atmospheres or in space. Vendors will react to you based on your reputation/faction. Some vendors may not wish to sell anything to you.

Trade Routes

You can talk to trade good vendors to get tips on which items are in demand around the galaxy. By delivering such goods to the area that needs them, you can gain Trade experience (and maybe a little profit). Of course, Tradesmen will have the upper hand because of their negotiating skills, but anyone can get Trade experience by delivering goods that are in demand. (Remember, you have to visit the Trade Goods vendors to get information on current trade routes. Other vendors won't be able to help you.)

Job Terminals

Some starbases have terminals that dispense Jobs. Combat, Trade, and Explore jobs are available at these terminals.

After activating the terminal, select the "Combat", "Trade", or "Explore" button on the left side to see a list of the available jobs. Select a job from the list and the description of the task will be displayed in the lower left section of the interface. The reward for completing the job will be displayed on the lower right. After completion of the job you will receive not only the payment shown here, but an increase in your faction/reputation of the faction that offered the job.

Once you decide to accept the job, click the "Accept" button on the lower right of the interface. The mission will then be added to your Mission Log. You must have space available for this mission to accept it. You can only accept 2 jobs every 5 minutes. New jobs are added to the terminal every few minutes.

Analyzing, Dismantling, Manufacturing

Analyzing an Item

Before you can manufacture an item, you first have to get its recipe (or schematic) using the Analyze function. To analyze a new item, activate the Analyze/Dismantle terminal in a starbase. You will see your cargo bay on the left side of the screen, and the Analyze interface in the center of your screen. Choose the item you want to analyze and drag it to the box labeled "Place Item Here." Cost and percentage of successful chance are displayed at the bottom of the interface.

You can only analyze items that you can manufacture. In other words, if your Build Engines skill is Level 2, you cannot analyze a Level 3 Engine. Also, some items cannot be manufactured at all, so therefore they cannot be analyzed either.

You have four possible results when analyzing an item:

Once the item is ready to be analyzed, click the Analyze button at the top left of the interface. If you are successful, the schematic will be placed in your permanent list (in the Manufacturing interface).

CAUTION! Analyzing an item will destroy it!

Dismantling an Item

The Dismantle function allows you to break down an item into some or all of its base components. You can only dismantle items for which you already have the schematic. Remember that when you dismantle something, the original item is destroyed, and you may not be able to salvage all of its pieces. As your Dismantle skill increases, your odds of recovering more pieces will also increase.

To Dismantle an item, drag it to the "Place Item Here" box and click the "Dismantle" button. The pieces you recover will appear in the boxes on the right side of the interface. Click the "Inv" (inventory) button to move them into your cargo hold.

Manufacturing

The Manufacturing area allows you to take base components and assemble them into a new item. To be able to attempt manufacturing, you must first have a schematic and the base components for the item you wish to build.

The Manufacturing interface is much like the Analyze/Dismantle interface. Your cargo hold is on the left, and the manufacturing area is in the middle of the screen. The icons atop the interface correspond to the categories of your schematics. Find the schematic you wish to use and click it.

The area on the right will show which components are required for that item. If the items are illuminated, then you have the components available. If any components are not illuminated, then they are unavailable and you won't be able to build your item until you have all its necessary pieces. Cost and percentage of successful chance are displayed at the bottom of the interface. If all the components are available, click the Manufacture button to attempt to build the item. Remember, this will destroy the components. If you are successful, the new item will appear in the Result box.

The condition of manufactured items will vary depending upon the manufacturing character's skill, as well as other factors (see Improving Your Chances below). Items that are manufactured cannot be analyzed by other players.

Refining Ore

Consoles in some starbases will allow you to refine mined ore. This will change the ore into another usable material. There is no chance of failure in the refining process, but there is a monetary cost each time you refine. Only characters with the prospecting skill can use the Refining interface.

To refine an item, click the Refining console in a station. The interface is similar to the Manufacturing and Analyzing interfaces. Any ore in your inventory that can be refined will be listed in the box in the center of your screen. Select a type of ore, and you will see its byproduct in the "Result" box. To refine the selected ore, click the "Refine 1" button. You can also use the "Refine Stack" button to produce a full stack of refined material. The ore will be refined into the new material, and will replace the original ore in your inventory.

Improving Your Chances

Intergalactic Net

Available in most starbases, Intergalactic Net terminals allow you to browse Net-7 News updates. You can also look up information on Guilds, Events taking place in galaxy, and quick sector reference with the Galactic Guide.

Net-7 reporters can also use the Intergalactic Net terminals to submit news items to Net-7 editors.

Avatar and Ship Customization

Avatar Customization

Some starbases have terminals that will allow you to customize your avatar. Once activating the terminal, select either the "Clothing" or "Hair & Face" button on the right side of the interface. Specific options for each appear on the left side of the interface. Use the color palette on the right to change the color of the item you are currently customizing. Zoom and rotate options are available at the bottom of the interface.

Each change will add to the cost. The total cost for the changes you make is displayed on the right side of the interface, above the color palette.

Once you have completed your changes, click the "Accept" button on the lower right. The cost will be deducted from your credits and the change will be made.

Ship Customization

Use Ship Customization to change the look of your ship. These terminals are available in some starbases along with the Avatar Customization terminal.

Click the "Hull", "Ship Name", "Paint", or "Decals" button to customize that respective option. This process is the same as when you created your ship. Zoom and rotate options are available at the bottom of the interface.

Each object changed will add to the final cost. Hull changes become more expensive with each upgrade your ship receives through advancement. The total cost is displayed on the right side of the interface.

When you have completed your changes, click the "Accept" button on the lower right to make the changes.
